I am heartbroken to share the news that the 2020 State Convention has been canceled. I received this information last evening, and (after running through a box of kleenex) am sharing this information with all of you.
The Executive Board of International Chapter is charged with managing the business of the Sisterhood and that is taken very seriously. However, nothing is more important than the health and safety of our sisters.
After much deliberation and with heavy hearts, they have made the very difficult decision to cancel all 2020 Conventions of State, Provincial and District Chapters.
I understand this will generate many questions and concerns about convention details and logistics, as well as handling the business of our State, such as voting on proposed amendments, elections of executive board members and finances. I do not have any further details to share at this time.
I will provide information and details as they become available. So please do not contact the Michigan State Board or International Headquarters. No one may contact Grand Traverse Resort regarding the Michigan 2020 State Convention as this could jeopardize contract negotiations.
I know there will be many things to consider and the International Executive Board is working on these details. Please be patient as they continue to address each and every issue. We are fortunate that International Chapter has event planners, attorneys and the Parliamentarian of International Chapter as resources for these topics who will help work and guide us through them as quickly as possible. In addition, we will be working directly with Brenda Atchison, President of International Chapter and Georgann Douglas, our International Representative to convention.
I am grateful for all the hard work and time that our Hostess Chapters have put into our Convention thus far. I particularly wish to thank Jeanne Barstow and Dawn Betha, Convention Co-Chairs, for their leadership, support, and love.
I appreciate your patience as we navigate many, many details and issues.
With warm and sincere HUGS,
Karen Kline, MSC President
